Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
Psalm 90:2
Our God is not commonplace normal nor is He of this Earthly existence. Our God is majestic and eternal forever with a mind divine that is truly out-of-this-world. There is nothing commonplace about our God. Everything about our God is awe-inspiring and mind jarring.
As we walk out the Christian walk and become more familiar with the Bible, by becoming accustomed to the scriptures and Christian culture, we can at times lose sight of the awesomeness of God - His grandness and loving kindness. What this demonstrates is that we have lost our zeal in pursing a closer fellowship with our Heavenly Father through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our escort and aid into a closer walk with God. Should we choose to continually over-ride the checks of the Holy Spirit to draw closer to God, we are allowing our love for Him to grow cold. Herewith is the danger of the Christian walk that has parked from pursuing God - settling for what one perceives to know about God and in turn treating Him commonplace.
In no other place is the love of God demonstrated more clearly and sacrificially than in our salvation that the cross of Calvary secured for us - "... God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." (Romans 5:8-10). When we start to forsake being thankful for so great a salvation, we begin to drift away from His love and we lose sight of God and of the great price He has paid for us to be His children now. This forsaking of fellowship and gratitude can lead to a hardening of our hearts towards the love of God.
When we seek after God with all of our hearts, the Holy Spirit takes us on a journey of a greater revelatory awe of God. The awe of God that the Holy Spirit will lead us into is a revelation of the love of God. His Love is our awe. Apostle John writes that if we do not know love we do not know God: "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins." (1John 4:8-10).
We know that we are pursuing God when we have an awe of the love of God. Today my encouragement to you is to check your 'level' of awe towards God and your gratitude for all He has done for you. Do you have an awe of His divine love for you and His master-mind plan for your life, or have you lost sight of His majesty and kindness? Awaken to His love again and continue to be found in the press of your Christian walk, full of zeal and thanksgiving to your Heavenly Father. Yield to the drawing of the Holy Spirit to walk closely with your God.
Stay in awe of God!
